If you want to escape the tourist trail and enjoy discovering little local treasures when you travel, you can't miss our tips!

Just over 25 minutes away, north of Lisbon, you will find a place that breathes history and gastronomy – the city of Mafra.
Known for its magnificent Mafra National Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which includes a Royal Palace, the Basilica, a Convent and the Jardim do Cerco, built by King D. João V, here you can visit one of the most beautiful libraries in the world and get lost in its gardens with centuries-old trees and species from all over the world!

In Mafra, you will find the best of traditional Portuguese gastronomy, from its famous mafra bread, much appreciated by Lisbon residents, and sold throughout the country, to its cheeses, wines and game, meat and cod dishes.
If you are overwhelmed, we recommend that you go to the Adega do Convento restaurant and enjoy the region's delicacies.
But Mafra is also synonymous with Portuguese sweets! Here, you will find some of the best pastry shops with Portuguese convent sweets, a must go are the pastry shops: O Fradinho, Polo Norte and O Semper Quente, go in and ask what the house's specialty is.

10 minutes from Mafra is Ericeira, a fishing village, with beautiful beaches, considered the best beaches in Europe for surfing. In the summer, they are very popular with the Portuguese and surf lovers, with the famous Ribeira d’ilhas Beach being one of the venues for the World Surfing Championships.
In Ericeira, you will find the best fresh fish and seafood restaurants. If you are looking for a fancier evening with a sea view, we recommend the Sul restaurant, if you opt for a more traditional restaurant, with good fresh fish, we recommend Mar d’areia.
